A Prelude to Spring……Shad Fishing on the Roanoke River in Weldon is On!

The trees are starting to leaf out, daylight savings time is here, the shad are running hard, and the stripers are on the way………the smell of spring is in the air.  Don and Joe had a great introduction to shad fishing today.  Neither of them had ever caught a shad and were unfamiliar with the fishery………until today.  They looked like regular old pros battling big roe nanny shad on ultralight spinning gear.  What a beautiful day on the Roanoke……….good company, good weather, good times, and good fishing.

We were fortunate to have a UNC-TV film crew on board today to shoot a segment for N.C. Weekend featuring Roanoke River fishing.  They filmed plenty of action packed footage of shad catching.  I’m not sure at this point when the segment will air, but will keep you posted.  It was a pleasure to have them on the boat and a fun time was had by all.
