Great Start to the Weldon Season

We had fun on Week 1 in Weldon for the beginning of our spring striper season.  There are plenty of fish and some nice sized ones in the mix.  Water levels were perfect at 11,000 cfs.  The levels dropped over the weekend to 8500 on Saturday and 5500 today (Sunday), where they will remain through the week.  I would prefer just a bit more water (like 9-12k) for the early part of the season to get more fish up there; however, there’s always good fishing when it’s at that 5-10k range, so I’m sure we’ll have a great week with some possible jig, fly, or topwater opportunities for the early season.  Last week, it was mostly a live bait bite.

If water levels stay stable, the season is shaping up to be one of our best in recent years.  We’ll be back at it on Monday starting off week 2.  Here are a few pics from last week.   I have only one opening left for this season on the afternoon of May 18.  If you want it, shoot me an email.  That’s a really good time during the season.  There’s always a load of fish sticking around and everyone is gone.
