May 12 (afternoon) Roanoke River Striper Fishing Report

Well………the 2012 season ended with a bang with my friend Craig Holt on the boat.  Craig is a freelance writer whose articles are often prevalent in N.C. Sportsman Magazine as well as N.C. Game and Fish and other publications.  He will be writing an article about the Roanoke River striper fishing in May and it may be featured as a cast and blast article combined with late season spring turkey hunting.  Look forward to the article to come out in April of 2013.

The fishing continued to be excellent.  I was able to finally do a little bit of fly fishing and caught plenty of fish on my 6 weight while waiting for the late afternoon topwater bite to fire off………and it did.  We had a some great topwater action throwing Storm Chug Bugs and when we left, they were still biting.  The bigger fish (mostly 19.5-22 inchers) were hitting the topwater plugs and the smaller fish tended to hit the jigs.  What a great way to end the season with a bang.
