This morning’s speckled trout report from the Pamlico River

We started out this morning on a cold but beautiful morning with slick ca’m conditions and a pretty pink sunrise.  After a 27 degree night two nights ago and a cold one last night, the bite has slowed a bit. Typically a speckled trout bite is slower during a cooling trend this time of year. Likewise, a warming trend can work in your favor bigtime.  During a cold spell, you can still get a bite if you beat them in the head with it but the just aren’t that fired up.   We ended up with a decent catch despite the fish not cooperating fully.  The Nixon clan hung in there, stayed focused, and caught enough specs for several meals.  Sometimes you just have to make the best out of the conditions you have, and these guys did.  As a good friend of mine says, speckled trout fishing is like “Calling Cats”.   Great job fellas!

F#$k an office………….WOW!

The ones we kept.
