Bill and Dempsey must be the luckiest two fishermen because everytime they have fished with me, we’ve put a hurtin on em! I had a great time and always enjoy having two gentlemen as accomplished as Bill and Dempsey on the boat. They are excellent anglers and share my appreciation for many of North Carolina’s wonderful natural features such as the Lower Roanoke River floodplain. After an exciting giant red drum trip back in early Sept. in the Pamlico Sound, they wanted to get a taste of some of the hot winter striper action the Lower Roanoke River area has to offer in Jan. and Feb. Well…………they got their taste.
We achieved both quantity and quality in our fish today, but not in the same area. Lots of small fish in the river and fewer (but nice) fish in the Albemarle Sound. The last couple of days have been the perfect scenario with absolutely beautiful weather consisting of crystal clear blue skies, light winds, and rare calm waters on the sound. My anglers have had a chance to catch and release great numbers of fish for most of the day and then venture out to the open waters of the sound during the last couple of hours of their trip to catch a few for the dinner table before the end of the day. Just doesn’t get any better…………I love fishing in the winter!
