Today was the second day of the catch-and-release season, and the fishing is red hot with more fish being caught now on fly, artificials, and topwater.  Fred Dunstan and Don Mucci from Rocky Mount really got their fill on fly and artificials.  Don got tired of fishing the jig and decided to switch to live bait.  Although to a lesser degree, the stripers are still feeding on live bait, hench Don’s new nickname, “Live Bait Don”.  Fred got a chance to hook catch some fish on his hand built custom 8 weights.  Pretty work fellas.  The fish are really starting to spawn during the early mornings and late afternoon.   We even saw witnessed some spawning activity during the middle of afternoon.  Anyone who appreciates this resource should witness what most people call the “rock fights”, where females come up the surface to release their eggs and sometimes hundreds of male fish surround her to fertilize her eggs.  The surface of the river literally erupt with stripers boiling the surface.  It’s pretty spectacular.
