John, Carey Sr., and Carey Jr. enjoyed lots of action fishing the marshes of the lower Pamlico River yesterday. We caught tons of speckled trout……..just not all of them were keeper sized. We did manage plenty to take home for dinner. We also had some exciting encounters with slot drum, catching our limit of those plus a handful more and an overslot drum which measured just over the 27 inch mark. We also were lucky enough to hook into a big drum on a trout rod. He appeared to be around 40 inches. We fought him for a while and then pulled the hook. We were disappointed not to get him to the boat we were excited to see him come up to the surface a couple of times. I’m not surprised to see a few stragglers hanging around.
