Folks, the river seems a little screwed up from this recent fish kill.  We’ve had an outbreak of a fungus which has infected many of the menhaden in the “fresher” portions of the rivers.  The areas most affected are the Pamlico River upstream of Bath as well as the upper Pungo River.  Many of the 3 inch menhaden are dead or dying.  These menhaden are the primary forage for all of the larger predators that I target.  I believe that because the baitfish supply is dwindling, so are the bigger fish.  I think many of them have moved downriver or closer to the sound to find more abundant food.  While the fishing has been tough on some days, there are still some scattered fish around……….just not what we need to make your day the memorable experience you are looking for.

As a result, we will be fishing out of Swan Quarter for the next few weeks, where fishing has been outstanding.  We will be located at Clark’s Marina at Swan Quarter and are excited about the prospects of some excellent light tackle action over the coming weeks.  See the LAUNCH LOCATIONS page for updated info on fishing out of Swan Quarter including an interactive map and address for Clark’s Marina and lodging info for our Swan Quarter charters.

Some pics from our recent trips.  We’re getting some fish but not really what I think we need.  The puppy drum fishing has been the most consistent with some slot drum in the mix.  We had a limit of slots on one trip.

An early morning pig on topwater!
