Matt is smiling......First Bite of the Day!

My childhood buddy from Tarboro, Matt Godwin, Esq., and I decided to venture out on a little February full moon trout adventure in search of some 5 plus pounders.  We didn’t find any gator trout but had a blast catching dinks and a few decent fish on Mirrolures and jigs.  Come to find out that we were so close to getting on some big fish but we just didn’t fish quite slow enough and deep enough with our MR-17’s.  We learned a valuable lesson.  When you know for sure that you’re on some fish and you can’t get them to bite, if you think you’re fishing slow, then fish slower, then slow it down some more, and then slow it down even more and you’re probably getting close to how slow you need to fish your hard baits this time of year.  It’s tricky fishing, but these fish are around and can be caught with the proper technique.
