The fish have been here for a week or two now. It’s been hit or miss on the corking…….just have to have the right conditions. The most consistent bite lately has been the early morning or late afternoon bites on bait. That will only get better as well as the corking opportunities as more fish move across the sound to our fishing grounds. Our plan of attack this year is simple…..to catch fish by any means. Both boats are rigged up for corking or bait fishing. Last year, the corking was a bit slower than we expected, so we did more bait fishing. We will be starting out our trips trying to get these fish on the corks and topwater baits, but if we have to fall back on baitfishing, we will. How we catch them will depend largely on what your desires and expectations are.
Give us a call this week if you want to get out there and get an early start on the big drum. For those of you that want to add a little light tackle fishing to the mix, we’ll still be doing some combo trips where we target the giant drum for half of the trip (typically early mornings) and go catch something we can take home. The flounder bite, although it dipped down a bit during this full moon as the fish typically feed moreso at night, should pick right back up and be steady throughout drum season. If catching a handful of monsters and some keeper flounder on light tackle in the same trip sounds like something you’d like to do, we can get it done.
We have recently updated our Guides page with full bios and pictures of all the great guides who will be running the other boat for the upcoming drum season. Check out their stories. You will undoubtedly enjoy fishing with any one of them.
Updated August Drum Season openings for the other boat:
Aug. 3-9, 11, 13-15, 17-19, 21, 24-27, 29-31
Capt. Scott really wants to take somebody out this week on Friday, Aug. 7 or Sunday, Aug. 9. Any takers?
