I had the privilege of taking my favorite Western North Carolina trout guide, Judson Conway of Elk Creek Outfitters, and his family out fishing in my neck of the woods today. This family knows how to fish and really enjoys it. We headed out looking for giant red drum because they all really wanted to catch and just see our big reds in the Pamlico. Although there are a few drum around and some have been caught, it’s still a little early for consistent catching and conditions were not very favorable for corking after the wind picked up too much. We quickly turned to the flounder. Judson caught a couple of nice keepers and the rest of the family picked up the slack with the undersized fish. We had a load of fun!
