Inner Banks Fishing Continues to be steady on the Pamlico River near Washington

Pat and Truitt had some topwater blowups early in the morning but the weatherman was wrong with his mostly cloudy forecast for the day. We had a short window in the morning for topwater fishing but took advantage of it with some quality bites. After that we spent the majority of the morning trout fishing, catching some specs, a flounder, and this 8 pound female. Notice the roe sacks in her belly. She’s getting ready to head up the river for her annual spring spawning run up the Tar River. We let her go, so she could go make some more for us in the coming years. Hopefully she won’t get caught in one of the dozens of nets in the river.

I’ll be heading up to Weldon the first week of April this year in anticipation that the stripers may arrive there a little early this year. In the meantime, we’ll be hammering them on the Pamlico, as well as some early spring trout, flounder, and puppy drum. By the middle or third week of May, we’ll be back here in Washington for our late Spring and Summer light tackle mixed bag fishing on the Pamlico and Pungo Rivers. I have plenty of open days during that time, so book your adventure now. Don’t forget about our flounder gigging charters this summer. They will loads of fun!
