Last Drum Openings and Looking Ahead to Fall Fishing

As we approach the end of our giant red drum season, we’re getting excited about our upcoming fall light tackle season. The flounder fishing will be the best of the year in October. We should be getting plenty of keepers. We expect the flounder bite to continue until roughly the end of the month. We’ll also have a few slot redfish in the mix. There are some around eating all the greentail shrimp in the creeks right now. We also should have plenty of stripers in the Pamlico to catch on topwater. That bite should remain pretty steady through the holiday season.

Around the end of October, we’ll be going up the the lower Roanoke to check out the late fall bite on the stripers. So whether we’re chasing flounder, slot reds, and stripers on the Pamlico River or stripers on the Roanoke River, we’ll have plenty of choices for the fall. I’m sure we’ll encounter some smaller trout while we’re chasing flounder and slot drum, as there seem to be plenty. Everybody gets all upset about trout and yes it does make trout fishing tough after a big winter freeze; however, they have an amazing ability to reproduce. We should see bunches and bunches of them this fall, and if we have a mild winter, we’ll see them again next year and they’ll be bigger.

Here are our last remaining openings on the other boat for the giant red drum fishing (corks, topwater, or bait). Shoot me an email, and we’ll do our best to put you on a few before you have to wait until next year.
