Mid-May fishing has yielded some great days for our guests. Last week, we fished Lake Phelps for largemouth bass and had a 20 fish day while wading and sight fishing to 3-5 pound fish. We spent two days fishing the lower Roanoke for the post-spawn stripers and had excellent trips with some heavy early morning topwater action. We also spent a couple of days fishing for speckled trout and redfish on the Pamlico, and that was good for the most part. The trout fishing is pretty solid now and the red fishing is just ok. I feel like it will bust wide open here in the next couple of weeks. It did last year in early June. Now is a great time to plan a mixed bag trip for June/July and also line up your giant red drum trip for August, September, or early October. My calendar is already full for that, but Capt. Hurley and my other guides have open dates.
Here are my upcoming open dates: June 28-30, July 25-26, Oct. 3-4 17-18, 21, 25, 27-28, 31, Nov. 1, 4, 7, 18
Here are Capt. Hurley’s upcoming open dates over the next few weeks: May 23-28, 30-31, June 1-2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12-17
Here are Capt. Hurley’s remaining giant red drum dates: Aug. 15-18, 20-23, 26, 30-31, Sept. 3-6, 10-15, 18-19, 24-28, 30
Let me know if any of those dates work for mixed bag fishing this summer or for the giant red drum. You better get them while you can.
