Don’t Believe Everything You Hear or Read!

While we will mostly be chasing stripers the remainder of the winter and up in Weldon during the spring spawning run in April and May, we will be doing some trout fishing during the transitional month of March. March is a great time to trout fish, as the fish are “emerging” from their winter pattern and becoming much more active and aggressive. Those of you who desiring the finesse of catching the speckled fishies are in luck. We’ll be fishing for them and catching them because we know how to locate and catch them. For those of you desiring the hard pulling action of slot redfish or stripers, we can fill that bill, too.

There’s been way too much hype lately about some of our speckled trout dying from the latest freeze. It’s a natural part of their life cycle in places like North Carolina and Virginia, some of the more northern parts of their range. While we have had some loss of resident fish, we will still have plenty of fish to catch this spring. This is all the more reason to hire a professional fishing guide to carry you fishing. The ones of us who are full time professionals are on the water nearly every day and put the time in it takes to locate and put our clients on fish. You should be confident in our abilities and always expect the maximum level of effort to ensure you the best experience possible. Even though you can’t keep the trout until June 15, we can still keep some nice slot drum and stripers for your family dinner or fish fry. Don’t let these regulations spoil the enjoyment of being out on the water and enjoying some great light tackle fishing! This overslot drum caught on light tackle was slightly too big to keep…..it sure looks like to me that the Livesay boys enjoyed their catch despite not being able to stick him on ice. God bless!
