Over the last few days, we’ve been working pretty hard to put our anglers on some drum with mixed success. The morning bite (when we typically fish) has been tough. The fish are spawning hard and are just not very active during the day. If you wait until late afternoon and early evening, they will bite if you can get some decent soak time while avoiding all the afternoon thermals that add an extra element of adventure to your outing. The full moon can be a tough time to fish. You either land on the motherload or you don’t do much. That’s the way it can be. After this moon, it should get better in the mornings. We caught another one under the cork. and we’ve been spending some time trying to fine tune that technique. It’s really exciting and no one wants to go bait fishing after catching one under the cork. If we can get a little more consistent at it, we might start offering artificial only trips for the giant reds next year. If we have another good year on the puppy drum, we might mix it up and do an all casting combo light tackle trip for the slots and the giants. Here are a few pics from recent trips:
