Our winter striper season is in full swing and is a typical year so far, with the fish making an excellent showing in the Albemarle Sound and lower Roanoke River. In most years these fish typically show up around the holiday season to begin our winter fishing. They should stick around into the pre-spawn period in late March and early April. We’ve seen typical lower Roanoke numbers ranging from 50-100 fish on better days and 20-50 fish on “slower” days. “Slower” is a relative term on the lower Roanoke. What I love so much about this fishery is even on the off days it still produces a quality fishing day.
