Due to my passion for waterfowl hunting and inquiries from some of our existing clients, we’ll be offering open water duck hunts during waterfowl season. Our fishing will continue to be priority number one, and we’re looking forward to some awesome striper action on the lower Roanoke very soon; however, we’re also tickled to be able to get some folks out on the water shooting some ducks.
Currently, we’re in the process of rigging our other boat, the 22′ Privateer Beaver, for open water duck hunting. We’ve been in the shed this weekend getting it painted battleship gray to match the color of the water. We’ll be doing our hunting out of the boat using a special blind called a scissor rig. Scissor rigs are especially effective in drawing ducks in close on the open water. This will give us a great advantage over fixed open water blinds such as stake blinds, shoreline blinds, or curtain boxes, because we can follow the birds and be in position each morning for the best possible open water hunting. We’ll be mostly hunting the the lower Pamlico/Pungo Rivers, Pamlico Sound, and the Albemarle Sound and it’s tributaries. One additional advantage to scissor rig hunting is the incredible variety the we might encounter. Sea Duck and diver species live and feed in the open water and puddle duck species the hunters normally shoot in the marshes or in impoundments use the open water for rest areas. We might encounter puddlers, divers, and/or sea ducks on any given hunt, depending on our hunters’ specific requests and the particular area we are hunting.
To keep the hunting thing separate from our fishing, we’ve added a new brand. We’ll be doing our hunts as Inner Banks Waterfowl, and have a new website and Facebook page with all the information you’ll need to book your hunt. Keep in mind that this is a new venture this year, and the website is a bit “young” but you’ll see it mature over the coming season.
For more information, visit us on the web at www.innerbankswaterfowl.com. and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/innerbankswaterfowl. Let’s do some duck hunting and have some fun. We’ll be booking hunts this season Dec. 19 through Jan. 30.
Here’s a few pics of the boat getting painted this weekend. We’ll be putting things back together this week and will be some a few shakedown cruises after the holiday, getting ready for late season hunting.
