This week we’ve mostly been fishing on the Pamlico with one side trip up to Weldon to see how things are shaping up. Fishing has been excellent everywhere we’ve been. We’ll be starting on Monday in Weldon for the spring season and won’t be back on the Pamlico until the middle of May. We’re looking forward to a great season. The past Thursday afternoon’s trip in Weldon yielded about 70 stripers…….all on soft plastics. The jig bite is shaping up nicely for this early in the season, and as long as we don’t get a huge rain above the lakes, the water level should remain just right for some casting and rip lipping action for those who desire it. For the others, I’ll have live bait ready.
It’s going to be tough to leave the Pamlico because the fishing has been so good lately. We’ve been catching a nice mixture of trout, puppy drum, stripers, and white perch this past week and have had lots of happy anglers.
Stay tuned for an update from Weldon early next week. I’ve had a couple of shifts in reservations for the Weldon season, and I have May 2(am), May6(am), and May 10(am) open for striper fishing in Weldon. Get em while you can.
