Pamlico River Striper Fishing Report

I’m glad we got out there early today because the early morning fishing was good and the bite slowed for us as the morning wore on. The fishing has been pretty good lately but today was a bit slower due to tough conditions (lots of rain last night stirred all the water up and a little too much SE wind downriver to facilitate easy casting) but we dealt the hand we were played and managed a respectable catch and learned alot. John, Brian, and Oscar became accomplished topwater and subsurface striper anglers in just a few hours’ time. Brian didn’t even know how to cast a spinning rod when he got on the boat and was casting like an old pro by the time he left. The size of the fish was a mixed age class, typical for this year’s fishing. We have seen fish as small as 6 inches (1 year olds……..spawned last in the spring of 2011) and fish pushing 28 and 30 inches. That’s quite impressive on topwater. Today our biggest fish was around 25″, but still no slouch. Our topwater window was not as long as I had hoped, so pray for some gloomy overcast day through the weekend. I’m not sure if we will be that lucky. Great job fellas………..you all were a pleasure to have on the boat!
