I want to thank Craig Holt from N.C. Sportsman Magazine for coming down today to do a feature story on Pamlico River Striper Fishing, which will run next winter (Dec. or Jan.). Not only did Craig catch a few stripers, but he had the chance to taste the infamous “Rooster” at Sunnyside Oyster Bar in Williamston. Even though our shucker made it a bit on the mild side, I think his senses were, should I say, “awoken”.
We tried a new technique today, the Alabama Rig, which is quickly gaining popularity as a casting bait. IT WORKS! We caught some nice stripers today. We were hoping for a double, but I’m not so sure I would want two 6-7 pound fish tugging on that thing at the same time. Craig did mention that in all of the years he has written for the magazine, he doesn’t recall a fishing article ever being written about winter striper fishing in the Upper Pamlico River. We had a great time. The article won’t be out till next winter, but keep your eyes open for next month’s fishing forecast on more about us using the Alabama Rig for Pamlico stripers.
