Well the hottest day of the year lived up to its name, but it wasn’t so bad on the water. I spent most of the day on the water, as I had two half day trips. Our morning trip with Ted and Ted was very slow. We managed only a few flounder. I went back to the place where I caught them the day before but we had some weird N wind (that was not forecasted and who would have thought we’d seen that on the hottest day of the summer) that blew us out where I wanted to fish and scattered all the bait and subsequently the fish. With poor conditions and our options now limited, we scrapped out about half a dozen flounder and that was it.
The afternoon trip went much better, as we began by hitting up a spot that was holding some really nice stripers (22-30″ fish). We were catching them on live bait every cast. We then deployed some live mud minnows and caught scattered flounder and specs the rest of the afternoon. Danny and his brother had a ball, and so did I. I was glad to finally get home at about 7:30 that evening and sit in the A.C. I felt like one of those rotisserie chickens you see at the Food Lion deli…………cooked! I sure will appreciate those days in Plymouth this upcoming winter.
