Sorry for not being more diligent about posting daily fishing reports. I’ve been running hard with 2 trips/day for the past week and I don’t have internet service up at the farm in Halifax; however, I will be filling in the blanks from all the exciting trips we had over the past week. Fishing has been all over the board with catches ranging from half a dozen to 35 fish drifting live bait and 40-50 fish on artificials and topwater today and yesterday. While 50-100 fish days are typically the norm by about the second week of April and we haven’t really seen those kind of of numbers yet this season, I think the fishing is about to bust loose in the coming days. Anglers downriver are encountering plenty of fish, so there are more arriving every day. On our trips so far, my anglers have been seeing limits of upper keeper sized fish (mostly 20-22″) and several slot fish each day (22-27″ fish). During the hot topwater bite, we caught 1 red tagged fish and 1 yellow tagged fish yesterday and 4 yellow tagged fish today. Pretty steady tag retrievals for you tag seekers seeking a free t-shirt or hat from NCDMF.
