Weldon Striper Report

I hit the river about an hour early for my Friday afternoon trip and did some quick scouting to how many fish have arrived. I threw a jig and caught 5 fish in 7 casts. That was all I needed to see. I then returned to the ramp to pick up my party, and we ended up with about 60-70….all on soft plastics. Out of all those fish, we only had 5 keepers, but judging from what we’ve seen on the lower end this winter, we should have plenty of 18-22 inchers this year. We expect a run of smaller fish (the small bucks or males) early in the season. They usually are the first to arrive to the party, very eager to spawn, much like their human counterparts.

Chris and her family had a great time. They have had a place at Lake Gaston for many years, have heard whisperings about the fishing in Weldon, and decided to try it for the first time. They had a blast. It’s hard not to when the fishing is like this.

Email or call me if you want in on this. Here are our remaining openings. I’ll be fishing 2 boats up there this year to accommodate everyone. Capt. Joey will be running the 22′ Beaver boat.
