More Winter Stripers and Looking Ahead to Weldon

The shad are not the only story from this past week. The striper bite on the lower Roanoke has been very steady with 40-60 fish days being the norm. Also, my Weldon openings are going fast, so make sure you plan ahead and make your reservation for the spring striper season in Weldon. Due to the excessive demand for these trips and the fact that the fish are usually there by the first week of April and hang around through the end of May and early June, we will be extending our season a little this year. My first trip offering will be Monday, April 9 (pm) and the last offering will be Saturday, May 19. We offer 5 hour trips in the morning starting at 6:30 a.m. and in the afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m. We fish Monday afternoons through Saturday mornings. I have to have some break, so I take Sunday’s off. The late season is my personal favorite. The river is usually empty and the fishing is very very good. Some of my best days have been late in May….100-200 fish trips on jigs, fly, or topwater with 3 trucks at the ramp. Here are my remaining openings for the Weldon season:

April 9(pm), 10, 11, 13(pm), 17(pm), 18, 19(pm), 23(pm), 25(am)

May 1, 2, 4(am), 8(am), 9(am), 10, 14(pm), 18, 19
