Cork Fishing in a Gale

The last trip we fished was in exceptionally rough conditions (blowing nearly a gale out of the NE) and we still managed 3 out of 6 bites. The early morning was calm but very rainy, so we decided to wait the rain out. By that time, the wind had started. Despite the wind, we found a calm area that was holding fish. Rick and the boys each got one under the cork. The best fishing is usually when conditions are ideal, which is when it’s slick ca’m; however, you are not totally out of the game when it’s blowing. You can still manage to get bites under the corks in extreme conditions. I think the bite will hang on for at least another week and maybe a bit longer. There will be straglers around throughout the fall, so we might divert a little on our light tackle trips and try for a few bigger reds.
