February Seminar: Red Drum Fishing (Giants and Pups)
In this workshop, you will learn how to target redfish in our estuary throughout the year. This includes the giant red drum or “old drum” caught in the Pamlico Sound during the spawning run in the late summer and early fall. I’ll discuss the tradition method of baitfishing and as as the new popping cork method and catching them on topwater baits. We’ll also talk about catching the smaller drum on light tackle. The Pamlico/Pungo estuary has resident puppy drum all year. Learn how to find them by locating their preferred habitat and what baits to use in particular situations. This is a diverse fishery throughout the year and being versatile and knowing various tactics will enable you to catch them every month out of the year.
