What does a fishing guide do on vacation.? Go fishing of course. Yep……..that’s what I do to get away for a couple of days. I go to the mountains and fish our beautiful western rivers. I love fly fishing for trout, but I really really love fly fishing for smallmouth, especially with topwater flies. It just doesn’t get much better in my opinion.
Judson Conway of Elk Creek Outfitters out of Boone put us on the fish as usual. He’s a great fishing guide and become a good friend. He’s alot of fun to fish with and is very knowledgeable and experienced on a number of different rivers in that area. All we had to do was sit back, enjoy a pretty float, and execute our casts and hooksets. If you’ve never done a float fishing trip in Western North Carolina, you should strongly consider it.
Here are some pictures from our trip. My friend Matt is a trout bum, but I think I’ve converted him. We had lots of 17-19″ fish, all on topwater flies.
