Folks I’m sorry for not keeping up more regular reports. I’ve been staying up at the Hunting Club with no internet access and pulling doubles all week at Weldon. 15 hour days and record numbers of fish have enabled me to hit the bed early and sleep well at night. I’m home on a 2 day break and will be back at it on Tuesday.
I can’t even describe how good the fishing has been this year in Weldon. I thought I had seen some unreal fishing in the past but this just blows everything I’ve ever seen out of the water. All of these trips start running together for me after a while but my memory was jogged about 2 days ago when I bet we caught close to 400 fish among my morning and afternoon trips. Despite what some might have you believe, many of these fish were beautiful keeper sized and slot sized fish. We banged out about 150 on jigs in the morning. I never dropped a live bait in the water, so I had about 250 baits for my afternoon trip. With 4 anglers across the side of the boat, we bailed 4 at a time from 1:30 to 5:00 until we ran out of bait. I had a hard time keeping up but was able to keep everyone hooked up just as fast as they dropped the bait down under the boat. Yesterday, the fish were spawning on the surface everywhere. After catching a couple of hundred between my my morning and afternoon charters, Capt. Greg Voliva and I hit the river before dusk and banged out about 40 on fly between the 2 of us in about an hour. All we had to do was get the fly in the water and make a couple of strips and we were hooked up. While all this is happening, we’re watching pods of spawning fish right surfacing all around the boat. Just an incredible show of nature!
Today 2 anglers easily caught well over 100 and we had a great late morning flurry on jigs……tripling up every cast.
If you want in on this, I have 2 openings left. NEXT WEDNESDAY MORNING MAY 14. I also have MONDAY MAY 19 in the AFTERNOON!
Let me know if you’d like to see this. You will be happy that you came!
