Lower Roanoke and Albemarle Sound Report!

Melvin and his crew hung in there with some tough fishing. We did put together a respectable catch (especially by Pamlico or Neuse River standards) with some nicer fish mixed in, but we had to work for what we got. We got scattered bites in the rivers in the morning and headed out to the sound to my honey hole after lunch only to find murky water conditions from a mild NE blow Thursday night and Friday morning. I feel like the fish were there but bites were tough to get. We even ran to the Edenhouse bridge only to find the mouth of the Chowan wrapped up with perhaps thousands of yard of gill nets. Didn’t get one bite there and didn’t mark much on anything on my sounder. I’m looking forward to better fishing when the boys return in June to try some flounder, trout, and puppy drum action on the Pamlico. While I can’t get em every single day, I will certainly put forth 110% effort, and you will have fun and learn a thing or two. Things can change overnight in the Roanoke. These fish are doing alot of moving right now with water temperatures around 49-50 degrees, just about 10 degrees warmer than they were this time last year.

I cancelled my charter today due to rainy weather but will head out in the morning in search of some specs during this month’s full moon. Looking forward to that! Will keep you posted tomorrow.
