Guide’s Day Off:
What else but topwater fishing on my day off with my good buddy, Matt O’Neal. Another outstanding day of topwater striper fishing on the Pamlico. Gotta love this overcast weather. Getting bites all day on Spooks and Plugs………and nice fish!
The only dampener to our day other than driving rain most of the morning was all the gill nets in the water. I counted 15 100+ yard gill nets in a 1/4 mile stretch of the Pamlico River below the trestle near Washington. Counted 5 more at the mouth of Choco Bay. Do the math………1500 yards in 1/4 mile of river…….10 fish per person per day commercial limit. I was hesitant to release the one fish we did catch in that part of the river because there was no direction he could have swam without running into a net. WTF is wrong with our state? Had to fish in inland waters today to find any fish…….and we released every one of them. I’m about as sick of this as a person can be!
