Pamlico Report

One our last trips to the Pamlico, we’ve caught alot of fish…….just alot of smaller fish. I bet we caught 50-80 fish on each excursion. White Perch (which we kept……….54 this past Tuesday), tons of small stripers (10-15 inch fish), and lots of small speckled trout. We’ve scaled down the tackle to take advantage of all the small fish. Those ultralights have been bent……alot! I’ve never seen so many small stripers in the estuary. They are literally everywhere. We are going to be in for some of the best striper fishing anyone has ever seen over the next couple of years. These small fish are spilling over from one of the most productive spawns in Weldon we’ve ever seen two years ago (I think). They are all over the Albemarle Sound, its tributaries, the OBX areas including Hatteras, and in the Pungo and Pamlico and their tributaries. We are finding stripers in places that we don’t normally see them in the sound while trout fishing.

As we continue, we’ll be looking for some excellent flounder fishing, scattered puppy drum, and hoping to encounter some larger trout. Until we find that, we’ll be hammering the small fish.

I went to Lake Phelps yesterday. Stay tuned for a new report on it. Wow! What a place!
