Taking March “Shadness” to a New Level

We filmed another episode of Carolina Outdoor Journal today. It will air in the fall of this year. I’ll make an announcement once it’s scheduled. This episode will be featuring shad fishing on our Coastal Plain rivers, except this episode won’t just be any old shad fishing show. This is a concept that Joe Albea has been wanting to film for years. Being the advocate for our coastal fishing that he is, Joe wanted to film American (White) Shad fishing on the Tar River and Hickory Shad fishing on the Roanoke River in the same day and same trip. I’ve personally never done that before and I bet there are very few people who have. He is always looking for new and different ways to present established as well as new and undiscovered fisheries to viewers. I can’t imagine if you live in and/or fish in North Carolina, you haven’t seen his show, but for anyone who hasn’t, here a link to the website (http://www.carolinaoutdoorjournal.com/home.html) and an online archive of past episodes (http://video.unctv.org/program/carolina-outdoor-journal/)

I fished with my buddy Brad Whitaker, who is a very accomplished angler but has never fished for shad on the Tar River out of a boat and never fished for shad in Weldon period. He got quite the introduction/spoilage today. We started wetting our lines this morning around 8:30 on the Tar and by 2:30 this afternoon, we were wrapping it up on the Roanoke. How cool is that?

Only in Eastern North Carolina can you catch plentiful numbers of American and Hickory Shad on the same day on two different river systems…….all within 45 minutes of one another. Just goes to show how awesome our fishing really is. Let me know if you would like to try this special trip next March. If you’re interested in learning about our Shad fishing, we can give you the same experience and introduction we gave Brad today on conventional or fly tackle. We’ll be offering and advertising more shad fishing adventures next year from about mid-March through the first week of April (during the peak of both Shad runs) before we start the Weldon striper fishing season.
