Jeff Mims and his two sons had a great day half day afternoon trip on the Roanoke River in Weldon today. The boys, who are both emerging sportsman looking to refine their fishing skills learned how to hook some hungry stripers on live bait. Due to the recent thunderstorms within the river basin, Dominion increased flows to 13700 cfs, which raised the water and freaked out the fish for a short while; however, by today, water levels seemed to stabilize and the fish were biting well. While I wouldn’t call the bite completely red hot, 30-40 fish are easily attainable on a half day and the bite should improve as water levels stabilize. Water temperature is 61 degrees and slowly rising for peak spawning temps in the middle to upper 60’s. Give me a call to get in on some of this action. Open days are limited through the end of May.
